Saltmere, the last night

The Hush takes sound first. Then warmth. Then memory.

Every night a living fog comes in from the sea. The lights along the coast have gone out, and the old keeper who tended them has rowed off into the dark. You are Maren Holt, the last Lantern Keeper of Saltmere. Take the light down the cliff road and win back what the fog took.

The story
A sunny morning on the Saltmere quay before the fog: a laughing harbormaster teaches a young Maren to tie a knot while an old fisherman watches
Saltmere, before the Hush.

A run takes about five minutes

Move with the keyboard or one thumb and your rifle fires by itself. Most of the game is deciding where the light goes next.

In-game: Maren fights a crowd of Hollowed around a brazier in the flooded chapel, her light ring drawn on the stones
In game: the Sunken Chapel
  1. Hold the light

Your lantern is your armour. Outside its glow the Hollowed are shapes you never see coming.

  2. Relight the braziers

Light the old braziers to claim safe ground. In their warmth you hit harder and the fog retreats.

  3. Choose the road

After every fight, three doors: a merchant, a shrine, a relic, a campfire or a harder battle.

  4. Evolve your kit

Pick one of three skills each level. Pair the right two and they evolve into something brighter.

Season 1 has three chapters

What the Sea Keeps. Each chapter ends with one of the Drowned, and every one of them was once someone Maren knew.

  1. Chapter 1

    Saltmere Harbor

Quays, net lofts and a breakwater swallowed by fog. Rescue the survivors who rebuild the Lighthouse.

  2. Chapter 2

    Weeping Marsh

Stilt huts and dead willows over black water, where cold lights drift between the lamps at night.

  3. Chapter 3

    Sunken Chapel

A tidal isle and a half-drowned chapel, whose cracked old bells should never be rung backwards.

Between runs, the Lighthouse.

The survivors you bring home each take up a trade, and the Lighthouse grows with them. So does what you carry into the fog.

  • Forge & Armory Temper your weapons and gear. Sets change how a build plays.
  • Library Talents, the codex of the Hollowed and the memories you keep.
  • Roost Familiars at your side: a lantern owl, a crab, an ember fox.
  • Watchtower Patrols and expeditions bring supplies while you are away.
